Barn Farm Camp site is an awesome venue, with barns to sleep 2 to 18 people, proper showers and toilets, a shop, a sauna and its so clean too.
So many of you came down and camped on the Friday which made it extra special, especially as we ran the one on one competition for charity in the afternoon, thanks to everyone to who took part and helped raise £28 for our chosen charity. Some of the participants had never played tourney ball, or certainly hadn’t been on a supair field for a very long time, and it showed …lol….but it was good to see Phil (captain of Alpha One) taking on his son Scott and beating him down every time, even Mad Dog Mark Maddison showed he still has game as he took it to them every game, the Samurai Rage team used as extra practice or was it just an opportunity to shoot Matt..ummm, some of them were surely grudge matches, but it was all good fun and the winner received his prize on Saturday night.
Thanks to Onslaught who helped me find rock band Inferno that played Friday night and literally rocked our world and upset the campsite, it was very loud, ah well its good to be agg. Everyone brought their own booze which made for a good night, especially the Jokers who obviously play a lot of drinking games, but did seem to spend more time on the floor than in their chairs. A bloody good night was had by all maybe too much of a good night but at least the 5 man field wasn’t starting until 10am on Saturday.
I would like to give special thanks to Just Paintball who have supported the whole series with a trade stand, we all need to support them to make it worth their while coming. This time Gill couldn’t make it so she sent Tibs and Jack who always looked like they were having a good time. I did try and get Tibs to have a go on the bouncy castle which I had conveniently placed next to their trade stand, but he wouldn’t for fear he would pop it….lol….
Also to Dan Randon Photography, who attends events making you look good and he also does a lot for me behind the scenes too.
So Saturday came around with the big match we had all been waiting for the Series Finale in the Ultra Lite JCS Eagles vs Durham DV8, this was going to be tough and they didn’t disappoint taking it to time with Durham DV8 coming out on top.
The self seeding rounds started on Saturday with the 5 man field kicking off at 10 am and each team getting 10 games, the Ultra Lite started at 9am and each team had 5 games. All games finished about 3.30pm so teams had plenty of opportunity to get changed, have food, and get a sauna, hell that was busy….thanks to Mick the caterer from Porkys who then went to the barn and cooked us all fish and chips and kebabs and they were lush.
Inferno played their final set from 6pm till 7pm which was followed by the charity auction, thanks to all the teams that have given playing tops etc so we could raise monies for a more than worthy charity, also thanks to Vanguard for supplying a brand new Vanguard Creed worth £600. Bex stepped up and explained what the monies raised would be used for and that all players should dig deep, it was so personal to her that the players took heed and it was the best auction ever, or it could have been that Tyson and Daz from Durham DV8 did the auction for me and they made sure that they got top pennies for everything, well done lads and a huge thank you to everyone that placed a bid whether successful or not, at one point I thought Blakey and Paul from Vanguard were going to buy everything but that wasn’t the case, Andy Childs had a surprise in his pocket and he asked us to place bids….i won yeah…I bought a lemon for £35 so who was the lemon now. Dog Soldiers bought the Vanguard for £225..well done lads…
Blakey and Clarky had a great idea to release four lanterns to remember the four friends/players that we had recently lost, so I invited everyone to go outside as we remembered DJ the scenerio player that was taken from us quickly in a car accident, also Darren Clarke (28) who died of a heart attack at the prime of his life on the paintball site that his good friends were working, Grant Kinnie (24) previously of DV8 who died in a canoeing accident saving two childrens lives, and Chris Smith from the Mad Monks who inspired so many. I did a small reading about each of our fallen friends then we held a minutes silence to remember how they affected our lives in a positive way before Liam and Matt released a lantern for DJ, Blakey and Sam released their lantern for Darren, Andy Sables and Clarky released their lantern for Chris, and Tyson and Dave released the lantern for Grant, it was all very emotional , they will never be forgotten a trophy for Most Sporting Team will be given at Shoot the Rainbow from next year to remember them all.
Back to the barn to do the end of series trophy ceremony, but I had a couple of extra presents to give away….Kyle from DV8 Black received a box of sweeties for winning the one on one competition on the Friday afternoon, I presented Ste Dimmock DV8 Black a Welsh Dragon trophy for volunteering to return to Afghanistan to support his army buddies that had returned already, and a box of penis pasta to Freestylerz because they have never won anything the whole time they have played my series….apparently….which they attached to their masks for good luck on Sunday.
