Look To The Future

Postby Jon C » Fri Feb 12, 2010 10:19 pm

Ok I have managed to get the old brain matter ticking ( in some cases probably burning :D ) so while we have all you players doing some thinking lets try a different angle.

We all love the masters I can tell that is one thing we have in common. We all come from different walks of life but have the same goals we want to enjoy events and play some dam good ball ( or some of us anyway I dont play anymore but I do like to see the guys who have come on my field over the years go away with a smile on your faces!)

How can we look to the future, lets throw some ideas around - What do you guys want to see at events.

Now i know Dallas cheerleaders, free booze etc sounds like a brilliant idea but its not really feasable, but what else?

DJ, Trade stands, Exhibits etc.

Also some constructive critisism wont hurt but nothing like i got 1-4-1'd when i didnt think i did anything wrong we all know refs can make a mistake but lets not start a ref bashing campaign either.

Lets open the floor to you guys!

if its not too much to ask, a spare field where teams can organise there own lil piss arounds would be intresting (if the PM/AM idea is in place gives a lil space to ppl to wait around and have a little fun, or if its an all day then it gives you something to keep your mind set if your unlucky to get a long wait) that or use it as a coaching field, have some random pro come down and teach new people the basics or more advanced players things they might not know!

another idea is to have something that non paintballers can watch/do (dont know what, maybe a DVD or something on a screen or fishing or something, what ever normal people do, ill leave that open ended for people to expand on). might get a few more spectators and maybe get them to grow in to the sport more!

The day before the masters have a pro team coach, but make it clear what level they are aiming their coaching at, perhaps a coaching field for xball and a coaching field for 5man. teams will improve if there is an academy to help them.

At the same time if the venue can accommodate decent camping facilities encourages players to bring their families - BBQ and beer flows(obviously drivers won't drink and players won't drink during game time), better atmosphere for all.

Maybe an exhibition match of the better teams or even an exhibition tournament?

Could some of the masters teams be included on the UK leg of the Millenium? Would this benefit as a feeder into Millenium and raise the Masters by advertising at the Millenium? - Just a thought

how about 1 player from each team in a knockout comp - different player each event with a nice trophy at the end of the season for the team with the most wins?

TBH . what happen to the teams talking to each other the "we just played them watch out for him doing this or try this sde theres a blind spot there "
it used to be a good lot of banter between teams off the field .
no matter if you were plying that team some time in the day .

must say xball feels as though its not value for money . yes i know its hard with daylight hours .
more games would be good .

The current format probably dictates the amount of contact teams have with each other.
In the good old days when teams were there all day, you had the time between games to chat, watch the opposition or other divisions and look around the trade stands.
Now you have quick turnarounds that's all gone. You get there in the morning play your games and go home. If you are playing in the afternoon you turn up an hour before the scheduled start and miss the mornings play. So in essence you don't even see half the teams to talk to and you don't have the time to talk to the rest.
This in my view has made the event a bit sterile, all game - no community. At the end of the day though that is the format that the players wanted so no one else to blame. :D

The split day format works better on multi-day events, e.g. The Millennium Series, because most of the players are "locked" at the event over the whole weekend meaning that players get to socialise a lot more.

I can remember when i first starting of at the masters in 07 you use to play all day and you would be able to socialise with every and have a good natter at the trade stands about new things coming out, prices of things, sponsership etc....
But turning up for a session feels quite quick to me but hey! Thats IMO:)

Maybe if they turned allday teams would socialise more and get to know each other and get to play against each other aswell and maybe organise scrims one weekend to help each other out:)
