KOTH entry

Postby Batman » Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:32 pm

Hi guys,

me and a few friends have just got into paintballing, a few of us have played a bit before mainly just rec ball days, anyways theirs 2-3 of us already getting right into it and doing a few walk on days with the gear we've been buying.

we've been looking into forming a team but also joining one if we cant get enough noobs to join us, but a question ive posted this topic up for is...

can you enter any koth event? just one page states that it is 8 rounds over 8 months but it doesnt say wether or not you could just enter into a single event, obv your not gonna win in overall points for the year but would give us a good feel for tournament paintball if we could do an event sometime this year

thank you

Yes, you can play any single event, just get in touch with Wendy when you've picked a month to play and she'll sort you out :)

im new to paintball ,involved with a new team starting in the masters this year. I will be managing /pit crew for the team .Having played many sports and managed in football for about 9 years ,i find this sport , an exciting sport but struggling to move forward. Like bike racing, entry to the sport is more like entering a secret society than walking in..The two main playing bodies seem to be competing for a shrinking or static resource, teams. While individual players are searching for the same thing fledgeling teams. While the 2 leagues can roster their own divisions ,splitting the fledgeling into 2 KOTH competitions seems to weaken ,the weakest part of the sports structure. So why not stage a jont Koth league joint hosted /backed by the 2 leagues, ensuring the best enviroment for new teams and the sports future?? Irealise seasoned ballers ,bloggers will have just choked on their cornflakes or cracked a rib ,laughing, but no other sport i ve known ,would divide its resources. Im interested in what you folk think and why my observation would be unworkable

I think Wendys KoTH is mainly for the newer teams looking to going into the southern masters (like your team), rather than making it a huge thing where lots of KoTH teams come together, it's a little thing for newer teams closer to the southern tournaments (i.e NSPL / Masters) to attend and see how they feel.
I believe the NSPL also run KoTH but whether it's south bound i do not know, as when i first played it, it was in reading which wasn't exactly a 25 minutes journey up the road for me unlike BW.
The most obvious bit would then be too many teams if it all came together, days would become longer, longer times waiting off the field for your turn and loosing the buzz would happen(dependent on how it's run)

But on the note of it being a secret society, you'll hear lot's of things going round about it struggling but it all comes in different forms of talk, paintball isn't a hugely known thing (other than stags rinsing each other in the woods) so there will be shorter lists of teams, but the teams you get usually come back and back.

I think you'd be best coming down on the 13th for the UK Southern Masters and having a chat with her about it all.
All above is just my insight, and what i've learnt

tl;dr more teams longer days, paintball isn't widely known best to speak to wendy directly.

hi and thanks for some interesting points. We played NSPL KOTH last year on Saturday last year ,and they ve gone to Sun this year.It was the CPC teams and about 2 others who played last year ,that was it and Wendy says numbers not knocking down doors this year so far. We travel to Readingand its bout the same as Bricket. I was chatting to your team manager there when you were training about 2 weeks ago.The top end is self propelling its just when you read these "my mates and I" threads ,you sense a lot of them wont get to the grid never mind go the distance. The very existance of the 2 KOTH series shows both understand the importance of entry I just wonder if a pooling would be one way of maximising the sports efforts?

Yeah i understand what you're saying (just about.)

The only thing is the UK Masters and NSPL are two different events.
Both of them being southern, the idea of KoTH for BOTH of them is to get them prepared for the next stage in THEIR events...e.g KoTH UKM they play it then move onto playing the UK Masters later during the season or at the start of next season.

KoTH NSPL they play it for the season then move onto D4 NSPL.

Each of the KoTH tournaments are advertisement for the next stage of paintball - d4,d3,d2,d1 etc.

If they were to "pool" together as you say, chances are there would be a tug of war at the end of the series of the team that entered for which event to play, UKM or NSPL.
Then it would lead to "why doesn't the two different series join together yadayadayada. More teams playing the same tournament.

When i was playing KoTH i think i preferred having the simple 4-6 teams (including the one i guested for) as it kinda reduces the anxiety, when you're new there is a sense of worry how well/bad you're going to do. And when there is a lower number of teams, you feel you have a bigger chances, feel more confident about how you'll play. (Although thats just me)
